WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The beauty of trail running means you can fit large distances into short amounts of time. I had a lot I wanted to do during my ten days in Western Australia… diving, surfing and top of the list was completing the well known Cape to Cape Track. The only way to achieve this was to run the 123km distance if I wanted to make it back in time for my flight home.

Along track, I encountered a kaleidoscope of landscapes—from windswept dunes to towering karri forests—each more stunning than the last. Along the way, I was treated to sightings of native wildlife, including kangaroos bounding through the bush and dolphins playing in the surf. The scent of eucalyptus mingled with the salty sea air, and the calls of native birds echoed through the trees was like nothing I’ve ever experienced and something completely unique to this part of Australia. But perhaps the most memorable moments were those spent watching the sun sink below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of pink and gold as I reached the southernmost point of the track at Cape Leeuwin.
